Tourism (French tourisme, from tour - walk, trip) - travel (trip, hike) in your free time, one of the types of outdoor activities. Tourism is the most effective means of meeting recreational needs, as it combines various types of recreational activities - health improvement, cognition, restoration of human productive forces, etc. Tourism is an integral part of health care, physical culture, a means of spiritual, cultural and social development of a person. (According to the assessment of the scale of tourist traffic existing in world practice, tourists include all persons who temporarily and voluntarily changed their place of residence for any purpose, except for activities that are rewarded in the place of temporary residence.) Persons who spend their free time in any area less 24 hours are considered sightseers. Travel within one's own country is united by the concept of "domestic (national) tourism", and outside it - "foreign tourism".
International and national tourism are closely interconnected and interdependent, since by their nature they are homogeneous, generated by the same reasons, they form a demand mainly for the same goods and services; in many countries they have a common material and technical base and a single sphere of employment.
It is customary to distinguish between organized tourism - a trip according to a program outlined by a tourist institution, with the provision of a range of services, and unorganized, so-called amateur, - a trip according to a plan developed by the tourist himself, with a more or less significant share of self-service.
Our ancestors considered travel to be a rather dangerous business, but times are changing: with the advent of television and the Internet, travelers have access to information that can help them prepare for travel correctly and not get trapped. However, some stereotypes of thinking gave rise to rather persistent myths about cruises to distant countries.

Money should be exchanged at home. Carrying a large amount of cash with you is not always justified, and sometimes just risky, since in this case the traveler runs the risk of saying goodbye to the entire amount at once if a pickpocket becomes interested in him. And the course may not be the most profitable, and sometimes vice versa. It is better to prefer plastic cards - and they are better protected than your wallet, and the exchange rate is the most favorable.

You should book the tour a day or two before the start of the trip. A few years ago, you could have saved a lot by booking a trip in the last few days. But these days, when the demand for travel abroad is growing, the number of flights served by small planes is decreasing, and it is becoming more difficult to find a free seat in a hotel, it is best to take care of everything in advance. The optimal period is 4-8 weeks.

The best guides are locals. This is not the case - locals are often little aware of the historical sights in their city. Tour guides, whose jobs are not among the highest paid, will most likely lead you through the standard circle of museums and gift shops that receive a percentage of sales. Therefore, you should think over the route and bring travel guides with you.

For what I pay, I get it. Sometimes the quality of service does not correspond to the amount that was requested for it. Some tour operators, hotels and cruise liners only promise to provide tourists with luxury services and deliberately inflate prices to match the positioned level. However, in practice, it often turns out that a less expensive operator will offer you a much greater level of comfort. First of all, you should pay attention to the product or service itself, and not to their price.

Excursions and other extras must be paid in advance. Most likely, cruise operators will offer you to pay for all excursions before the trip. But the best way to pay for this kind of services is to go ashore and decide on a list of attractions that you would like to see. There are many local travel agents or locals in the port offering the same excursions at lower prices.

The tour operator will provide more acceptable travel conditions than the travel agency. This is not entirely true. Perhaps the tour operator is better aware of the small nuances of a particular trip, but more often it is rather highly specialized, which sometimes negatively affects the ability to fully satisfy the client's requirements (especially regarding the departure date and tour duration). The travel agency, working with many tour operators, is able to offer more accommodation options, provide the customer with the opportunity to determine the most suitable travel start date, etc.

The most inconvenient is a charter flight. Not entirely correct opinion. Indeed, the departure time of a charter flight is sometimes not very convenient, but, firstly, tour operators can sometimes negotiate with airlines about a more convenient time for the flight, and secondly, a charter flight is much cheaper than a regular one, so if you want to save money, such a flight is for you fits.

The tours provided by the tour operator are cheaper than in the travel agency. This is not true. It should be noted that a travel agency purchases vouchers from tour operators at a retail price, and sells them at a retail price, which is not much different from the prices offered by tour operators. In addition, travel agencies can make customers a discount at the expense of their commission, respectively, the tour price is reduced.

It is best to collect your tickets and passports in advance. Unfortunately, this is hardly possible. The fact is that it is customary in consulates to return tickets for those leaving on the same day, and foreign officials, taking into account the date of departure, issue documents the day before departure. If a charter flight is planned, then air tickets are issued literally at the last moment. The reason is simple - if there are changes in the list of tourists, the tour operator who ordered the flight will pay a large fine. Accordingly, travel agencies are trying with all their might to insure themselves against such cases.

Tourists from the CIS countries do not like abroad: they provide poor service, the rooms are the worst, and even the quotas are announced. This is not true. Most often, in European countries they dislike their closest neighbors (for example, Italians do not like the French, the French do not like the Spaniards, etc.). Quotas are a normal business practice, often used in hotels around the world, so you should not pay too much attention to them. In addition, it should be remembered that a generous tip can ensure the comfort and respect shown by the hotel staff, a citizen of any state.

During the cruise you will be seasick. Misconception. Modern cruise ships are equipped with specially designed devices that allow, even in a six-point storm, to provide passengers with comfort and prevent rocking.
